History of Maa Sikharchandi Temple

It is known from the Odia mythology that during exile, Lord Sri Ram, along with Laxman and Devi Sita, came to this place. It is said that the image of Maa was engraved on the bow and arrow of Laxman, and Maa Srikharchandi appeared there.

Since then, Maa Srikharchandi has been known as Laxman Chandi and worshipped there. Later, a temple was built there by King Patiya. The temple is located on the top of a hill, which is named Srikharchandi.
The Nandankanan Zoological Park is located a short distance from the temple, so the temple is a famous and good picnic spot in Bhubaneswar. It is said that the goddess is blessed and benevolent towards the devotees who visit this temple during Durga Puja and Navaratri festivals. The festivals are celebrated with special rituals in this temple.

By road: The distance from bhubaneswar railway station to the temple is around 13 to 15km. You caneasily reach it by auto rickshaw, taxi or private vehicle.

Nearest Bus Stop: The nearest bus stop is Patia and the KIIT campus. From there kthe distance to the temple is 2 to 3 km away.

By Train: The nearest railway station is Patia railway station.
